The best and worst dressed at the French OpenBy Chris Chase
When Venus Williams took to the court early in the 2010 French Open wearing a racy, burlesque-inspired tennis dress, our hopes were high that the second Grand Slam of the year would be awash in fashion faux pas. Though none quite hit the zenith reached by Venus, there were plenty of fashion do's and don'ts to choose from for our recap of the best and worst clothes from the first round at Roland Garros.
The Worst
5. Maria Sharapova
It's better than the peacock monstrosity from Melbourne, but that's not saying much. This is the tennis dress equivalent of a black-and-white cookie.
4. Caroline Wozniacki
Time to clean out the closet, Caroline.
3. Richard Gasquet
Is that a crossword puzzle? What's a four-letter word for an American cola?
2. Dinara Safina
We were wondering the same thing, Dinara.
1. Anastasia Rodionova
Country club moms want their tank top back.
The best:
5. Simona Halep
If you were anywhere near a computer two years ago, the name Simona Halep probably rings a bell. If it doesn't, this link should jog your memory. After staying out of the limelight while playing challengers events for two years, the former French Open junior champion made her Grand Slam debut this week and showed that a breast reduction isn't nearly the menace the superficial male believes it to be.
4. Jarmila Groth
Simplicity is underrated.
3. Ana Ivanovic
Remember that episode of "I Love Lucy" where Ricky and Fred convince Lucy and Ethel that potato sacksare the hot, new trend in Paris? Well, if Ana wore one of those, I'd still put her on the "best dressed" list. Sue me.
2. Serena Williams
Did Serena not get the memo? How tasteful. How classy. It's like Venus' dress, only the exact opposite.
1. Li Na
A classic touch with some modern colors.
