As one of the most experienced players in the Italian side Samuele Papi has been instrumental in Italy's success over recent years but it almost came to an abrupt end last year.

During pool play at the 2002 World Championship in Argentina a sound like a "crack of the whip" echoed around the Luna Park hall as Papi collapsed to the floor holding his left ankle. He didn't return to face Japan nor did he take any further part in the tournament and for many it's a miracle and a great pleasure to see that he's recovered to be included in Italy's World League campaign.

The wing-spiker with 267 caps has been one of the lynch pins in this strong Italy team over the past seven years with a lethal attacking arm and stamina to match. At 190cm he's proved to be a phenomenal athlete and a crucial team player who loves to entertain. His leaping prowess in the No 6 jersey can surprise but more often than not it is his deadly accurate spiking arm, 56.25 percent success rate in last year's World League final round, which is responsible for the majority of concern for opposing teams.

Three World Championship titles, a World Cup and five World League triumphs are a testament to the quality of this Italian star and at 29 there's no doubting that he will add to the tally. Sooner, rather than later according to Italian fans.

Standing a slender 204cm tall and sporting masses of curly brown hair Italy's Alessandro Fei cuts an impressive figure on the volleyball court. Throw in his powerful attacking and subtle defensive games and he is one both spectators and opposing teams will watch with respective joy and caution in this year's World League.

Fei is part of an Italian squad recently rejuvenated by new coach Gian Paolo Montali. The move is timely as the most successful squad in the history of the World League faces the unenviable task of trying to forget last year's humiliating fourth-place finish.

Since the inception of the World League in 1990 Italy has won the tournament eight times and have never finished worse than fourth, indeed they dominated the competition during the 1990's and this perhaps puts pressure on the Squadra Azzuri, who will be counting on the likes of the experienced Fei, who boasts 86 caps, as 10 new players making their debut in the League.

The 24-year-old will have the integral roles of middle blocker and outside hitter, but he's proven that he can lift his game when it most counts and they can count on him to handle the pressure of the World League.

In last year's edition he finished third in the best scorer rankings and was one of the most consistent scorers at last year's finals. And since making his international debut in 1998, he has picked up a gold medal at the World Championship in 1998 and two World League titles in 1999 and 2000 for his rapidly expanding trophy ca**net.

While still relatively young, Fei, who wears the No. 14 jersey for Italy, has already had some valuable experience. After starting his club career with Foiano della Chiana in 1991 at the tender age of 12, the lanky Italian is now an integral member of another Italian club Sisley Treviso, where he has teamed up with his two international teammates, Valerio Vermiglio and Samuele Papi.

In 2003, Fei is making his sixth World League appearance for Italy.

The 32-year-old Sartoretti was named the Most Valuable player at the 2003 European Championships in which Italy stormed to victory. With an astounding 293 international appearances to his name, Sartoretti is the player all others look to when the going gets tough in the Italian ranks.

Currently togging out for Italian Serie A club side Perugia, Sartoretti is most famous for his skillful yet unusual serving style which sees the 1.94m tall athlete running in a semi-circle whilst spinning the ball in one hand before launching it into the opposing court.

He has earned a plethora of honours both at international and club level including the World Championships in 1998, the Olympic silver medal in 1996 and Olympic bronze in 2000. He has also been a World League champion in 1995, ’97, ’99 and 2000 and a European gold medalist in 1999 and 2003. Throw in four Champion Cups, two European Super Cups and one CEV Cup and it’s not difficult to understand why this Italian star is so well respected on the world circuit.

It is said that Sartoretti’s on-court personality is largely different to that of his off-court character. During a match, Sartoretti is a fierce battler who loudly encourages teammates to give their best. Meanwhile, when not playing, this father of two is shy, quiet and extremely affable.

那NBA那帮黑人球员是更分不清了？古巴女排那一帮应该能分清楚吧，看多了熟悉了自然就分清了，国内对于国际男排的报道还是少
