日本教练称富田将会取代排名比他高的两名队友其中一名,参加全能决赛。
2005 world champion Hiroyuki Tomita will replace one of his teammates to compete in the all-around final in Beijing, Japanese head coach Koji Gushiken said.
Tomita finished sixth in the all-around qualification on Saturday, but behind two of his teammates: Kohei Uchimura, fourth, and Koki Sakamoto, fifth. The top 24 gymnasts advance to the all-around final, but only two per country may compete.
Gushiken, the 1984 Olympic all-around champion, confirmed Monday that Tomita and Uchimura will compete in Thursday's final. On Saturday, Tomita fell on vault to finish .050 behind Sakamoto.
Japan finished second to China in team qualification, and will attempt to defend its Olympic title Tuesday in team finals.
Tomita is a three-time world all-around medalist, finishing third in 2003, first in 2005 and second in 2006. He was a member of Japan's gold medal-winning gymnastics team at the 2004 Olympics.
