小威并没有出席颁奖典礼，不过发表了一份声明。

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. (AP)—Serena Williams has been voted the WTA Tour player of the year for the second time.

Williams also received the award for 2002. She won the U.S. Open in September and ended last year ranked No. 1.

DinaraSafina was selected most improved player for 2008, and Zheng Jie waschosen comeback player of the year. Top-ranked Cara Black and LiezelHuber were chosen doubles team of the year for the second time.

CarolineWozniacki was selected newcomer of the year. Ana Ivanovic was chosenhumanitarian of the year for her work and contributions to UNICEF, andElena Dementieva was honored with the Karen Krantzcke sportsmanshipaward.

Williams was the only winner not to attend a ceremonyThursday at the Sony Ericsson Open to honor the award winners. Shereleased a statement through the WTA Tour.

“Winning the playerof the year award for the second time in my career is a great personalachievement,” Williams said. “I feel great about my game and hope towin many more player of the year titles in the years to come.”
