Hello from Colorado Springs! My name is Courtney Thompson, and I am a setter from the University of Washington. I grew up in Kent, Washington...which if you didn't know was voted sportstown USA two years ago despite our 'less than perfect' reputation...just thought I'd throw that in there.

Anyhow, I arrived here in Colorado Springs Monday (Jan. 15) and have had a great time thus far. I came in with eight other girls from around the country, and we've had a great time getting to know each other and comparing our college experiences. My roomate is Jillian Davis (the libero from University of California), so we played each other every year in the Pac-10. She is funny. Jill, as we call her, has an amazing ability to contort her face to make those looking at it erupt with laughter...she is also very talented in movie quotations and ugle dancing. More importantly, she is an awesome libero and I'm glad we're finally wearing the same jersey.

It's pretty awesome to be living at the Olympic Training Center. The people here are amazing, and it really is an inspiring place to be. I love everything about this lifestyle; our goal, our focus, our job is to become the best volleyball player we can be and here you have every tool to do just that. Since this was our first week here, the staff is trying to ease us into their way of training. I'm going to go ahead and give you a day in the life...

7:15 - My alarm goes off, I throw on warm clothes and head to the athlete center to get some breakfast. (the food is amazing by the way)

8:00 - I walk back into the room, make sure Jill is awake, then go take a shower.

8:35 - I put in my ipod and head to the gym.

9:00-12:00 - Practice

12:00 - Lunch (did I mention how great the food is)

1:00 - nap time/shower/hang out/homework (some of us are still taking classes)

3:00 - go to the athlete center and check my e-mail, and grab a snack

4:30 - weights and conditioning

5:30/6:00 - go to the recovery center- grab a post workout snack and hop in the cold pool.

6:30 - Shower up and head to dinner...(Seriously...its good)

7:30 - I usually intend to use this time for homework, however that hasn't worked so well this week.

10:30-11:00 - Go to bed because rest is important!

So that's it, and I love it. As time goes on, I've been told that we will add some practices, and get some more time in the gym...which is always a good thing. My focus now is just improving a little bit everyday, and doing everything I can to be the best player I can be...and of course, have fun while doing it.

Talk to you soon -

Courtney T.
