荷蘭女排主教練合約去到2012倫敦奧運
19.05.2009 - Avital Selinger’s contract has been extended until London 2012
Avital Selinger, whose contract was close to an end, has reached an agreement with the Dutch federation and renewed his contract for another four years, until the coming Olympic Games. Selinger started to coach to Dutch selection in 2004, won the 2007 World Grand Prix in addition to several titles with the club team DELA/Martinus. Until last season the latter gathered together most of the national team players.
Marcel Sturkenboom, managing director of the Dutch federation, is glad to have got the opportunity to extend his contract: “Avital is a coach whose competencies and capacities do no longer need to be verified, according to the results he has already accumulated. He is one of the best coaches in the world.”
On his hand, Selinger appears to have a clear mind concerning what is left to achieve until London 2012: “We have built the team foundations those last couple of years. We have good players, belonging to the international elite, however the road leading to London is still long. We now should be able to convert talent and experience into success and then reach excellence.”
After their 8th rank in the 2006 World Championship in Japan, Selinger conceded: “We are not the best team in the world yet, but it’s sometimes better to come from behind. It can be dangerous to improve too fast. What matters is not who wants be a champion –everyone does-, but who will be. To get there, you have to take it step by step. If you keep scoring points, you will win sets, then matches; and then the championship will soon follow!”
The following year, his team was reaching the highest step on the World Grand Prix podium… The Netherlands’ opponents have now been warned and will have to pay attention to Selinger’s team, which could be a serious outsider these coming years.
