USA Women's Training Team Wins a Pair to Even Italy Tour Record
CONEGLIANO, Italy (March 25, 2006) – The USA Women's National Volleyball Training Team won two best-of-three set matches Saturday night to even its Italian Tour record at 2-2.


Katie Olsovsky (Torrance, Calif.) scored a match-high 11 points and Jennifer Joines (Milpitas, Calif.) added 10 points to lead the United States to a 2-1 victory over Slovenian club team Nova KBM Branik Maribor in Saturday’s first match.

Olsovsky, a member of two NCAA championship teams at USC (2002 and 2003), had eight kills and three blocks in the 25-23, 17-25, 15-6 win over Maribor while Joines ripped 10 kills.

2004 Olympian Elisabeth Bachman (Lakeville, Minn.) tallied nine points on six kills, two blocks and one service ace and Katie Wilkins (Lakeside, Calif.) added seven points on six kills and one block in the first match.

In the second contest, Joines scored a match-high 14 points and Wilkins posted 11 points as Team USA earned a 2-1 win over Italian League A2 team Zoppas Conegliano.

Joines blasted 12 kills with one block, one ace and a hitting percentage of .556 as the Americans posted a 20-25, 26-24, 15-10 win over Conegliano. Wilkins had 10 kills and one block for the USA Women while Bachman and Olsovsky scored nine and seven points, respectively, in the win.

Conegliano, which is hosting Team USA during its stay in Italy, defeated the United States on Wednesday night in the first match of the tour, 3-1.

Team USA, which will watch three-time Olympian Danielle Scott’s Italian team (Big Mat Kerakoll Chieri) play on Sunday, has two days before its next match on Tuesday, March 28 against Conegliano.

On Wednesday, March 29 and Thursday, March 30, the Americans play a pair of A1-division teams, Pesaro and Vicenza, respectively. The tour then concludes with the fourth match against Conegliano on Sunday, April 2.
