YULIA MERKULOVA “Casino makes me bright from overcast”

Today, Soviet Sport published the interview with the volleyball player Yulia Merkulova of VC Zarechie-Odintsovo. VC Zarechie-Odintsovo is now desperately struggling for the second place with the Dynamo Moscow. Yulia Merkulova is one of the most important players in this Club, by the way, who is not only the highest in the club, but also the second highest player in team Russia. This beautiful girl with such a height (202cm) even makes many male volleyball players envy of her.

- Briefly describe, how did you involve playing volleyball?
- I began to play volleyball in Lipetsk. Honestly speaking, I was picked out for Professional Rowing and I was completely good at it. It was so adorable that I didn’t quit it until I met my first trainer Igor Alexandrovich Cherepanov. He inculcated me and made me start to play volleyball. Soon I loved it very much.

- What was your position in the squad when you began?
- I was trained as a Right Attacker (Opposite), but he didn’t think it fit me at all. Finally my coach transferred me onto the central as a Middle Blocker (MB). It appeared successful and I began to make a lot of progress. In 2000, I passed the League Proposal and turned to the professional in Zarechie, Moscow. My coach accepted it, therefore I moved to Moscow City and entered the Team of VC Zarechie-Ordintsovo till today.

- It is expected that you are going to be a great player in National Team of Russia…..
- I’ve been making effort for this big target. On one hand, I have got a good physical condition. Besides, I am a hardworking player with strong nature. If I am determined to attain something, I will try my best to do it….on the other hand, I met many experienced and excellent trainers who helped me to improve a lot. Among them, I am benefiting most from Pavel Mikhaylovich Matienko, my present coach in Zarechie-Ordintsovo VC. I’m sure that’s the main reason I am in national composition lists.

- did the quarrel between you and main trainers happen sometimes?
- Obviously small conflicts did occur sometimes. But we will rapidly forget it. The both sides will compromise a bit. After all, we are going to continue the further work together for a long time.

- How is your physical condition now?
- 100% perfect and ready for any games. Fortunately, I don’t have any healthy problems right now.

- can you evaluate the performance of your team in this season?
- I think our teamwork frame is set up gradually and all the members are playing well. Therefore the performance seems not bad. The regular season standing table shows that our club did a good job.

- Have you seen any shortages in your team?
- Sometimes disruptions and even tiffs annoy girls, which are nothing good. If the whole team can act as a well-fixed mechanism, then, we are able to conquer any rivals. De facto, most of us are good friends on the court and also off-court. We prefer to go out for a walk, or watch films in the cinema.

- How interesting! So friendship turned to success?
- Well, every week we depart to a new place for a new game, next day with training again. We seldom have one day off for entertainment.

- What do you usually do then?
- Sometimes stay in my room, sometimes go for shopping. I love going to the theater very much. I was so desirable to watch THE CONTEMPORARY and THREE GUYS the other day.

- Do you always feel bad?
- Yes, but I know how to get rid of it. Once I go to casino for some fun, it makes me so good.

- Where do you live?
- Next to circus with commercial post of “THREE WHALES”, in SHESTNADTSATAZNO TOWER. I’ve got one-room apartment. I love it very much although it’s not as big as everyone expects.

- Yulia, if you don’t mind, and it’s not a secret, can you tell us your dreams in the life?
- Certainly I wish my parents would be healthy. And the next, I wish my boyfriend would be successful. At last, wish myself play volleyball well and could make a little bit more money.

- With your perfect figure and sweet appearance, didn’t you think about to elicit some model potential?
- To be honest, no.

- But you are posh and fashionable, aren’t you?
- Certainly! What a pity, I have evening dresses but don’t have time to show them. I just keep them in the cabinet with dust. I would like to wear trousers suit in case of any official activities. It is more convenient.
