Murray out of Dubai with a virus
Murray beat Frenchman Clement in straight sets on Wednesday
British number one Andy Murray has pulled out of his Dubai Championships quarter-final against Richard Gasquet because of a virus.
The 21-year-old Scot had been a doubt for the match because of an ongoing ankle injury.
World number four Murray is due to represent Great Britain against Ukraine in the Davis Cup in Glasgow next week.
"I will have to rest and see," he said. "If I feel bad I won't play, and if I feel fine I will play."
He added: "Doctor says I need a week, 10 days, to start feeling better again and I'll just see. You never know with these things. Sometimes you can recover more quickly than other times."
Murray had already beaten Urkainian Sergiy Stakhovsky and France's Arnaud Clement in Dubai, but said he began to feel unwell after Wednesday's win over Clement.
"I woke up in the middle of the night sweating," he said. "I went to the doctor and started taking anti-biotics yesterday, but I have felt very tired all week.
"I have felt cold and shivery and had a sore throat, I feel that my temperature is up, and my body feels bad."
Murray suffered with a similar condition after playing Marcel Granollers during last month's Australian Open.
"I don't know what it is, some virus perhaps, but after that match I didn't feel great and I've not felt 100% since.
"There were a couple of days in Rotterdam [two weeks ago] when I felt better, but I haven't felt well again since I have been here."
He added: "I've had a blood test, and I've had antibiotics before for five or six days."
Gasquet goes on to face fourth seed David Ferrer in the semi-finals after the Spaniard beat Russian Igor Andreev 7-5 6-1. |
